Private luxury adventure escape to Costa Rica

Experience your ultimate adventure in the pristine rainforest, volcanoes and white sand beaches of Costa Rica, on this private luxurious 14-day tour.

If you’ve a thirst for adventure and exotic landscapes, then this is the trip for you. Costa Rica is renowned for its pristine wilderness, with one third of the country being protected from future development, and on this amazing holiday you’ll get to experience the best of it.

You’ll get to raft down the incredible Pacuare River, zipwire through the rainforest, taste traditionally made chocolate and get up close and personal with an active volcano. All this, plus some of the most exotic wildlife on the planet, including jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and much more.

The Inside Word

We Love..

That the gorgeous Pacuare Lodge was built with minimum impact on the surrounding river and rainforest. There’s no electricity here, so light comes from candles and lanterns, making it all very romantic. Meanwhile, lumber for the bungalows and main lodge was purchased from a sustainable reforestation project operated by small farmers, and the roofs are made from palm leaves installed by local Cabecar Indians. All in all it’s incredibly eco friendly.

Learn Something New...

Like how to make chocolate! At La Tirimbina plantation you’ll witness the traditional process for transforming cacao into chocolate (harvest, fermentation, drying). And of course, you’ll get to try some. Lots actually. It’s all made with organic cacao by the Women’s Association ‘Amazilia del Caribe’ – a group of rural farmers from Limon Province who’ve dedicated themselves to the production of organic chocolate.

Experience a Taste of...

Pargo and corvine, that’s red snapper and sea bass, but not as you’ve tasted it before.  Fresh from the fisherman’s boat and served with delicious, brightly coloured vegetables, it’s one of many fabulous fish options on the menu. Another speciality you should try is ceviche – raw fish in limejuice with coriander and peppers. It’s a speciality here.

When it comes to drinks, try a refresco, a cool drink made with milk (leche) or water (agua), fresh tropical fruit and ice, all whipped up in a blender.

Jaw-dropping Moment...

The incredible molten lava 'shows' at Arenal, one of the ten most active volcanoes on the planet. Watch bright red magma spew from the belly of the beast, testament to nature’s incredible power.

When to Escape

December to March

Generally considered the dry season.

May to November

Temperatures rise in April and the rains arrive on the Pacific side.

The Atlantic side has no specific dry season but there is less rainfall between March and September.
In Costa Rica’s tropical rainforest it’s best to prepare for all kinds of weather. Expect most mornings to be sunny and clear followed by rain showers in the afternoon. During the day the weather will be hot and humid with temperatures around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. Evenings are usually clear; occasionally you might need a light jacket.

“Pacuare is a true eco-lodge, the impact of its operations are kept to an absolute minimum. And when it comes to the rainforest activities, everything is geared around supporting conservation and providing benefits for nearby communities. Bird watch, hike, swim, fish, explore the rainforest canopy, visit a traditional indigenous community, or simply relax. It’s up to you.”
