Luxury beach escape at the romantic and elegant Royal Palm Hotel

In a hotel where there are three members of staff for every guest, you can be sure that you’re in for some serious pampering.

Located on a beautiful beach, just a short stroll from the lively town of Grand Baie, the Royal Palm was the first hotel in the Indian Ocean to become a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, setting a new standard for luxury and service.

One of the highlights here is the superb cuisine, prepared by internationally recognised chefs whose celebrated talents attract foodies from all over the globe.

The Inside Word

We Love...

The gorgeous pool, looking out onto the bay. With a sun lounger, constant supply of cold drinks and a good book, you’ve got the whole sun-kissed day stretching out before you.

Indulge Yourself...

With an afternoon in the Clarins spa. Surrounded by tranquil gardens, it’s centred around a peaceful pool, where the only sounds are the gentle splosh of water and the tropical birds in the nearby trees. Each treatment ‘cabin’ is individually decorated, with a private patio giving you the option of enjoying your massage in the open air. Try the Comfort and well-being massage, it’s divine.

Time for Action...

There are plenty of ways to get the blood pumping here – beginning with tennis on one of the three floodlit courts. The watersports are our favourite, though: hire a kayak and paddle along the bay or grab a mask and snorkel and spend the morning looking at the beautiful tropical fish that lie only a few feet from shore. Or, if you fancy something really special, book the hotel’s speedboat for a day trip to one of the nearby islands.

Learn Something New...

Like waterskiing! With calm waters and free instruction, you’ll be up on your feet in no time.

Experience a Taste of...

Fresh seafood with a French twist. Head chef, Michel de Matteis, has won numerous awards and worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants across France, now bringing his Gallic magic to the menus of Royal Palm. There are three restaurants to choose from: La Goélette (a romantic terrace restaurant serving international and local favourites), Natureaty (offering three themed menus each evening, promoting Wellness, Mediterranean, Asian and other influences), and Le Bar Plage (an informal lunchtime eatery where you can relax on the terrace under a magnificent badamier tree). Try a roti with dholl puri (pancake filled with curried beans, a spicy tomato sauce and lots of chilli), they’re yummy. One thing to be aware of is the elegant, smart casual dress code for dining in the evenings.

For Children...

Youngsters can play the day away at the complimentary Bob Marlin Mini Club, open to little ones aged three to 12 years from 0900 until 2100, seven days a week. A baby-sitting service is also available, subject to a supplement.

“We spent part of our honeymoon in Mauritius at the elegant Royal Palm. The service was excellent, so was the food, the white sandy beach and our palm suite. Actually, it was lovely!”
