Exclusive use of Uplands Homestead safari villa, in the Kwandwe Private Reserve.

Get exclusive use of this gorgeously restored 1905 farmhouse, situated in the heart of the malaria-free Eastern Cape province.

A member of Relais Chateaux, this elegant property has retained all its period charm and grace without losing any of its rustic warmth and ambiance.

Surrounded by rolling lawns, this stately home strikes a perfect mix between the genteel and the wild, cradled by the untamed hills of the &Beyond Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. Book it for exclusive use for you and your family or even a group of up to six friends.

Whoever you’re here with, a full contingent of friendly staff is on hand, including a private chef and butler, to give the place all the comfort and convenience of your own home.

The Inside Word

We Love...

The bird life. ‘Kwandwe’ means “Place of the Blue Crane” in the Xhosa language and the reserve is a haven for these highly endangered birds. It’s not all about the Big Five you know.

Make Yourself at Home...

The elegant, refined interiors are the perfect place to unwind after a day in the great outdoors. Drape yourself over the sumptuous sofa and snooze by the roaring fire or head to your suite and sit back on your private veranda with a G&T.

There are three suites with private bathrooms, decked out with antique mirrors and claw-foot tubs. Ideal for an indulgent soak before dinner.

Time for Action...

Whenever you’re ready, your dedicated 4x4 safari vehicle is waiting outside to whisk you off into the bush on a voyage of discovery. Morning, noon or night (or even all three), it’s up to you when you go. There are guided bushwalks available too, along with sundowners and picnics on the Reserve. And at the end of the day, why not cool off with a dip in the pool?

Learn Something New...

Besides the ‘usual’ Big Five, Kwandwe is teeming with rare wildlife. Like the black rhino – one of the world’s most endangered large animals.

In fact, for the first time in over a hundred years, you can see lion, cheetah, elephant, black and white rhino, and buffalo wandering free here.

Experience a Taste of...

Delicious South African cuisine, a mixture of different influences including local African, European, Indian and Malaysian. Cape Dutch cooking is renowned for its use of spices like nutmeg, allspice and hot peppers, and a skilled chef is on hand to create old family favourites and imaginative new dishes, all washed down with fine Cape wines.

For Children...

Children are welcome here, too. There’s enough room for six adults, one child and one infant (in a cot). Childminding services are also available.
